It was a glorious day. 15 cars ready to take off on Saturday. Our grid continues to be the best grid in all of racing sports in the Phils. Something the MCP should be very proud of and we should publicize more. (RACE DAY) -
(RACE CARS)
Round 11 started with Lito unable to get his car on the grid. The wily driver wangled to borrow Romy Mercados car so that he could get some points in the hotly contested NA class. Lito was leading the NA championship by only 4 points over me and every point counted. So, 14 cars started on the grid. John Camus, who did not qualify because of problems with his car and starting behind the last NA car on the grid used his turbo power to get ahead of all of us. He had an exciting battle with Pocholo for most of the race. He lost it in the last turn of lap 9 and almost ended up in the tire wall. He was unfortunately stuck in the gravel and could not return to the track. He still finished in the points for round 11 having finished more than 2/3 of the race when the race ended and had enough of a lead over Allan Lavarro when the race finished. Joey Pery won the open class with a superb run with his fastest time almost breaking the 1.50 min lap time.
The NA class went to Dan Ho. Returning from Canada and his car in good shape. He was chased by Romy David with both putting in best lap times of around 1.57. My car started to have engine problems, so despite being ahead of Lito, he eventually caught up in Manongs car and took the lead.
The Street class was a race between Allan and Greg with Allan taking round 11. Alfie was also around to cheer us all on. He did not need to run anymore since he captured the Street Class overall.
Round 12 saw the same battle between Joey and Bubi for the open class. Joey was ever so close to breaking the 1.50 barrier in round 12 with a 1.50.15. Maybe next year Joey????
My car was out of it for round 12 but following Lito's strategy and knowing that Romy was going to race in round 12 with his car, I borrowed Jenny Tan's car. I leant her my green miata so she could have fun with a turbo charged street car. John did not start round 12 so we were down to 13 cars on the grid.
Still a glorious grid when you consider only about 11 cars run in BRC, at most. Allan Lavarro was ahead of Greg for most of the race keeping me in front of him and Greg thus making Greg's job of passing both him and I more difficult. Allan finally had to pass me when I missed a gear. Gregs supercharged car likewise eventually took me. Hey, Jenny. Thanks for the car. What racing event can you find guys lending their cars to others? Only the MCP.
So, for all you points followers, here's how the season is stacking up. Remember the rule that everyone drops their 4 worst races: In the Open class the battle is still on for Joey and Bubi. Joey has 76 pts since he has 2 DNF's and he missed one weekend (I.e. 2 races) while Bubi has 70 pts. Still not mathematical possibility for Bubi but he will need some luck but starting to look good for Joey. John is in third with 64 pts. Pocholo is a far 4th with 46 pts. They have not been able to work out the kinks with his turbo. In the NA class Lito is leading with 67 pts. Romy David has moved up to 2nd with 64 pts after having a much more reliable season with only 1 DNF. I am now in 3rd with 62 pts. In the street class, as I mentioned Alfie has run away with the season with maximum pts. 2nd place is up for grabs between Allan lavarro and Jenny Tan. Allan has 55 pts while Jenny has 52.
Miata Club members, come to the last race of the season at Subic. Aside from the hill climb that is being organized by Toti, the season is going to be a humdinger with a couple of guys fighting it out in each class. See you all in Subic Nov 27 and 28. By the way, Nov 29 appears to be a holiday so we can stay an extra day for golf on Monday..............
