The first time I saw the Miata, it appealed to me in certain way that every time I see one, I can’t help but take a second look. Then came the time when they bundled the Miata together with the MPV at a good price. In my mind, wouldn’t it be nice to have your everyday car and a roadster for weekends? Unfortunately, my finances was just limited to my daily meals, my gas, maintenance of my first car and little bit of shopping. But as I have always believed in, God always looks into our dreams and more often than not is very generous in giving them to us in due time. In February of 2002, on my birthday, I was blessed to get my first brand new vehicle. Since I was already contented with my everyday vehicle which I think will last for years, my eyes was then set for the Miata. But a friend who happens to share my enthusiasm with cars wasn’t convinced with it.
Then we got hold of a Car and Driver Magazine. There was a very short and sweet description of the Miata MX5. “It’s the bestselling roadster of all time.” That changed everything for my friend and that elevated my excitement in the next level. The next thing I knew, we were already looking for one. We saw two Miatas before I saw my “Miats”. The first one we saw was a red one, then a green one. But I ended up disappointed. Then I saw this ad at the Manila Bulletin. It’s a blue Miata at Signet Mandaluyong. So I went there and tried to check on it. Unfortunately, the car wasn’t there since I didn’t set any appointment. So I had to go back the next day. And there it was my future Miata... sparkling clean inside and out... But what really got me was the headlight. The seller changed it to a dual headlight which I found more suitable to my liking. So in August of 2002, I got hold of my dream of driving my very own roadster on weekends. My five year relationship with my Miata is a mixture of joy and pain. But even in my lowest point where I am almost at the brink of selling it, by just merely looking at it makes me realize that this is a car worth keeping. So here’s to more years to my “Miats” and Me.
