A visit from my doctor said I needed a bypass. When I found out that a brand new Miata would cost the same as a bypass, I told my secretary to put a down payment on the car instead. Ten years later I’m still here and so is Stephanie. What started out to be a simple love affair with a car has proved to be more than just that. From conquering lonely twisted roads to conquering twisted ironies in life, Stephanie has been a constant loyal companion.
When the payment was done I slowly gifted her with little niceties such a 17 inch wheels that “blinged” her into a fine looking lady, installed a JR supercharger that made her feel “super” and to take care of her fuel diet, a JR power card.
She was baptized Step-On-It because that’s how my right foot would behave most of the time when I’m with her. We tried hillclimbs to occasional club races but what made it really special were the long drives from Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte to Appari. To err is human but Tuguegarao is divine. All 1,400 kms in just one run! Stephanie is a long-distance girl.
Stephanie has shown me that life can just be one big blur and that I should sit back and enjoy the ride. The wife has long been gone, and so is the right head rest. Hoping that one day I would put it back, right where my heart is. But for now I am not in a hurry.
