Congratulations to Nomer Tigue on the selection of his Miata as the MCP's Miata of the Month for May

Miata Experience

“You don’t have to be a masochist to own a Miata.”
- Car & Driver: Great New Sports Cars! (that you can actually afford), March 1989.

I came across this quote while looking for an old issue of Car & Driver that featured the Miata against a MR-2 and a Honda CRX. Although I failed to find the magazine, I’m pretty sure our Roadster won.

Publications such as Automobile Magazine, established the Miata as, ‘Automobile of the Year’ on the first year of its production. And has been a recipient of its annual ‘All-Stars’ ever since. It too has been included numerous times in Car & Driver Magazine’s yearly Top 10. And, Road & Track Magazine touted the Miata as one of the five best cars in the world.

The following are just some of the publicity that Miata owners have enjoyed back then.... and still continue to do so.

Mazda takes up where Lotus left off.
- Car & Driver, March 1989

(The Miata) is a 1964 British sports car that doesn’t leak oil in your driveway.
- Car & Driver, January 1991

If you don’t have fun driving a Miata, you probably don’t have a pulse.
- Automobile Magazine, February 1995.

No one who had dared dream of a two-seater so deft in its execution, so lacking in sports car nuisances.

In twenty-five years, Mazda will be a featured marquee at the Monterey Historic Automobile Races.
- Automobile Magazine. November 1995.

Driving the Miata feels as if you’re wearing the car like a wet suit and controlling it through a direct telepathic link.
- Car & Driver, May 1998

It’s the perfect reason to pursue your love of the classic sports car.

This lithe, spry car feels so acrobatic that you’ll find yourself smiling every time you have a chance to nail the throttle.
- Car Buyer’s Guide, 1998

It most definitely is the perfect English Sports car - the one that England never built.

The car that single-handedly brought back the roadster... although none has matched the Miata.
- Car & Driver, 1998

The Miata is, as it has always been, a class of one.

- Car & Driver Magazine

The Miata is now the most popular and successful sports car ever built in the world!

Kind of makes it hard to resist, doesn’t it? I’m sure compliments continued well after I stopped buying car magazines. As for me, it had me at ‘masochist’.

And now, not limited to quotes; but also things I’ve heard, seen, and experienced as a member of MCP for ten years:

“Mabibilis talaga ‘yang mga Miata Club na ‘yan!”

“Maglalakad na lang ako ng nakapaa, kaysa ikarera ang kotse ko.”

“Sorry Sir, Taguig po ito, hindi Makati.”

“A reason to get out of bed early Sunday morning.”

“...that’s my daughter!!”

Also, it was with the Miata Club Philippines that I....

      1. saw a flyin’ Miata,

      2. met people that actually liked the journey more than the destination,

      3. heard of one guy that owned more than five of the same little convertible,

      4. experienced Bayanihan, although not with a bahay kubo but with a car. Thanks again guys!

The MCP has ensured that plenty of enthusiasts will partake of its friendship and support. I am proud to declare myself amongst you. Thank you guys!!

Oh by the way, I drive a first owned BRG Miata with 15-inch alloys, Racing Beat kit, Suspension Tech. springs, OEM braces, and a bunch of stuff I haven’t installed yet.
