May 2006Chito FrondosoCongratulations to Chito Frondoso on the selection of his 1996 Miata as the MCP's Miata of the Month for May! |

When the Miata was introduced worldwide in 1990, I knew that I would want to own
one someday. It was a roadster that was good looking, handles well, one that’s
easy to maintain, reliable, comfortable, dependable, and affordable.
Apparently, I was not the only one who thought so, as of today, more than
700,000 have already been sold worldwide, and the figure continues to grow.
I love my Miata as it has taken me to many beautiful places around the
Philippines. Me and my Miata are proud to be one of the first Miatas to have
circled northern Luzon via the Ilocos coastline on the west, all the way to
Pagudpud, and returning via the Cagayan Valley/Nueva Vizcaya/Nueva Ecija on the
east, with a total of 1,300 scenic kilometers.
Owning a Miata has introduced me to other Miata owners that have become my dear
friends for life. I have also traveled around and have made many friends from
the nearby Miata Club of Singapore, all the way to the other side of the world
with Miata owners from the Big Apple Miata Club in New York. As a Miata Owner, I
know I can walk into a Miata club anywhere in the world and I know I will be
welcomed like a long lost brother.
As soon as I bought my Miata in 2000, I immediately joined the MIATA CLUB
PHILIPPINES, and became very active. I have had the privilege of serving the
club as its Secretary in 2001-2002, and then as Club President in 2004-2005, and
I will continue to be active for as long as I can.
My Miata is so stock and quite bare, because that’s the way I want it. I want it
to look and feel like it just stepped out of the dealer’s showroom each time I
get into the seat to start the engine. I had a few practical things added like
the V-kool invisible tint. ( it doesn’t spoil the sleek lines, but it keeps me
cool and comfortable specially on long drives on hot summer days); interior
lights to help me find my cellphone in the dark, and cupholders to hold my drink
as I cruise around.
I chose the classic red color, for my Miata, because I have always believed that
a small car looks best in a bright color. Besides, a red car always looks great
in pictures..
The Miata is a car for me to keep. It’s got a shape that looks good from any
angle, and has the lines of a classic. That’s probably why I have caught myself
many times staring at my car for hours. It’s not as fast as other more exotic
and top-of-the-line sports cars, but it’s just as much fun, and it sure is
nowhere near as expensive.
I only get to drive my Miata on weekends, so I keep a 1:43 scale Miata miniature
in my room so I don’t have to go down to the garage when I kinda miss it during
the week. Its quite accurate in detail, and in the exact same classic red color.
I know me and my Miata will have many more years together as we continue to go
visit places and to make more friends. I couln’t have picked a better sportscar
to buy.
