QUEZON RUN
Joey Bernardez
(March 3, 2003)

Yesterday Sunday the 2nd of March we conducted another Quezon Run. Participating members were Ricci, Alfie, JunZ, CarlosR, and myself.

Though we were few it nonetheless was as thrilling as prior Quezon Runs held in the past.

I arrived at Caltex on J. Vargas, Ortigas at the designated assembly time of 5am and soon after Alfie arrived, Carlos then Ricci, we met JunZ at a Shell station at the foot of the hills of Antipolo.

Notwithstanding the fact that the road to Quezon is absolute nirvana for me, I decided to sit this one out and take the role of passenger in Ricci's bad boy BRG with gunmetal Black Racing banana mags.  I had to sit this one out as I was in no condition to drive, yet I had an obligation to attend because I called for the run, even if the prior day Chem Ramos and I had a 6 hour death-match drinking session at Tender Bob's at Libis after he picked up a brand new 3 series BMW from Benedikt at Prestige. And the night before that, the Friday night Shell Fort hangout again lasted until the wee hours of the morning. Had I pushed it and driven to Quezon myself, not only will I need a new BBS center cap it probably will be bye-bye Bad Ass MMX-555 and hello miata #4. This Presidency thing is getting to be way too much fun!

Good thing too that I experienced the Quezon trip as a passenger inasmuch as it is no less thrilling as a passenger. The sights are really incredible and so soothing a change from the concrete and asphalt jungle that Metro Manila is. Not only that, blasting past those lush green rice paddies with the top down and the fog hovering over is extreme and absolute exhilaration!

We also had a gory experience in this run, we ran across a fresh road kill dog torn open eeeeeewwwwww!!! Ricci makes the bad decision of going over it thinking it would go between the tires. Wrong! We ran right over it and sent fresh blood and dog guts shooting up 6ft in the air hitting Carlos' white car who was right behind us - har-har-har!!!! Woo hoo that was fun!

We were also able to experience the sights more adequately in this run because the pace kinda slowed down as lead car Alfie was having some technical problems (something about not soldering this or those wires in the ECU and just crimp connecting them thus causing some misfiring). And even though we weren't going at the frenetic pace in which we ordinarily run, the sights compensated the sensory experience thus making it equally as enjoyable.

When we reached the Eastern shore of the island I looked in the rear-view mirror to see Miao behind me bringing up the memory of that fateful day in which Miao took out a bamboo fence but wasn't quite up to it when he ran into a boulder ; ) I hollered into the radio to Alfie to look out for the historic spot so we can take a picture of Carlos and Miao with the boulder to show it to Jason, but I think it was further up the road still and we were already at the traditional Baywatch stop.

It seems that Baywatch is not only a traditional stop for us but it is likewise the traditional stop for other fun runners, of the two-wheeled persuasion though. Tons of motorcycles were there that morning! Sport Bike groups, cruiser-bike groups, various scooter-groups (big wheel and tiny wheel scooters). However, we were the only representatives of the sports car group. I wonder if there are other car-groups that do that run?

We hung out, ate, I bullied Carlos a bit, we had a great time! at around 1030 we headed back out to
Manila.

Sure wish more of you would join us.
